Star Trek Discovery Looks Shit.

I see what got the Trek board back (let's see for how long).

Trek fans, I regret to inform you that Trek may be off our screens for many years after the anal squirt of rancid shit called Discover hits the fan. It's not looking good.

Look what they did to the Klingons.

Minor problem old chap. We in the US can't see the video. And before you get up in the air about the "New Klingons", there's been some mention of a sarcophagus ship, so what we may have here is a case of a Klingon version of "Space Seed". but in this case, in stead of being banished, these folks may have been slaves being transported on a sleeper ship.

There is really no way to tell if it will be good or bad just by watching a trailer. I had seen very appealing trailers where the actual film or series was bad. And I have seen bad trailers where the actual film or series was really good.

And a constant drawback from all other Star Treks was the terribly cheap make up. All previous aliens --- including the Klingons --- looked like human actors with ridges on their faces. These new Klingons look like they have better make up than past Klingons.

We will have to give it a chance. But I am not extremely excited by the premise. Ten years before the original? I want the future. Not the past (in relation to most other Star Treks).

Re: Star Trek Discovery Looks Shit.

Will it have the straight Sulu that acts gay like in the old days or the new,gay Sulu that acts straight?

We must succeed, no matter what the cost... to us or to Mr. McGarrett.

Re: Star Trek Discovery Looks Shit.

Didn't care for the first two episodes but since the action has moved to Discovery I'm actually starting to get into it.

Re: Star Trek Discovery Looks Shit.

I'm a big Trek fan but I have not paid any attention to this at all.

I an enjoying it. But it is very melodramatic.

There is no Sulu. This Trek supposedly takes place before the original series. (Spock's father is in this one.)

I can't watch the trailer.
It just says that the uploader has not made the video available in your country.

I haven't really watched it yet.
And if I ever want to see it then I would have to rely on the services of a hacker who is far more talented than I am.

Nope, can't get in because it says:

This website (www.youtube.com) attempted to
extract HTML5 canvas image data, which may be
used to uniquely identify your computer.

So VPN tunneling doesn't seem to work.
Just tried a backdoor hack but it says the video is unavailable.

Youtube really thought of everything didn't they.

Re: Star Trek Discovery Looks Shit.

Boy are the Vulcans jerks! It's a wonder that the PC Earth folks allowed them into the Federation. And the true irony
was that Sarek's two "blood" children eschewed normal Vulcan lifepaths, while the first adopted daughter wanted
it was refused by Sarek's decision.

After having watched the first 5 episodes...
My main criticism is that the scenes with Klingons all require subtitles.
And that the subtitles are in poor contrast and in a font that is difficult to read and if
that wasn't bad enough, there are some misspellings in the subtitles.

Not to mention that having subtitles detracts from everything else that is on the screen.
Either you can read the subtitles, or try to make sense of what is going on on an overly dark screen.
So the subtitles pretty much make it a deal breaker.

Subtitles are acceptable in Japanese Anime because it was originally made in Japanese.
However, a film or show that was made primarily in English shouldn't have sections that require subtitles.
That is like trying to say that all Star Trek fans are extreme Otaku by making Star Trek Discovery that way.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otaku

In modern Japanese slang, the term otaku is mostly equivalent to "geek" or "nerd", but in a more
derogatory manner than used in the West.[6] However, it can relate to any fan of any particular
theme, topic, hobby or form of entertainment.[6] "When these people are referred to as otaku, they
are judged for their behaviors - and people suddenly see an “otaku” as a person unable to relate to reality".

I think that is more realistic. Klingons wouldn't be easy to understand. They have their own language.
